Avallain Boosts Its Reach with Key Investment in AI Tool, TeacherMatic

Today, Avallain, a leader in the edtech sector for two decades, has underscored its dedication to ethical AI in education and continuous innovation with several pivotal updates, including an acquisition and a new addition to its advisory board.

Avallain, renowned for its groundbreaking and effective educational technology solutions, has acquired TeacherMatic, a rapidly expanding generative AI toolkit for educators in Europe. This move is part of Avallain’s wider strategy in AI, which includes solutions for remediation and copyright safeguarding, both of which are integral to its flagship content creation platform, Avallain Author.

Avallain’s suite of products empowers publishers to harness the potential of advanced generative AI while adhering to educational, legal, and commercial standards. In the past year, TeacherMatic has built and curated one of the most comprehensive AI toolkits available for educators worldwide, offering an array of resources from lesson plans to multiple-choice quizzes, all easily customisable to different curriculums with just a few clicks. The merger of TeacherMatic with Avallain sets the foundation for a robust collaboration that combines cutting-edge technology with ethical practices in AI for educational purposes.

Ursula Suter, Co-Founder and Executive Chairwoman at Avallain, stated: “We see this joining of forces with TeacherMatic as a crucial step to counter the main risks from generative AI while also benefiting educators and education, in general, in a manner that will cater to high quality educational publishing and learning outcomes.

Peter Kilcoyne, MD at TeacherMatic, remarked: “TeacherMatic was formed by a group of lifelong educators with the aim of making generative AI available and accessible to all teaching staff to help reduce workloads and improve creativity. We are delighted to have been acquired by Avalllain whose expertise and experience in terms of both education and technology will greatly enhance our future developments, improve TeacherMatic as a platform as well as engaging with new markets around the world.

Additionally, Professor Rose Luckin has been welcomed to the advisory board of Avallain. Rosemary (Rose) Luckin, a Professor at University College London and Founder of Educate Ventures Research (EVR), brings over three decades of experience in AI for Education to the table. She is celebrated for her contributions to the development and assessment of educational technology and AI.

Rose commented: “Avallain has, for many years, been the quality engine of education for publishers and content providers. I am delighted to support them and provide guidance and direction for Avallain’s products as we step forward into this exciting era of AI within education.”

In a further development, Avallain has introduced the Avallain Lab, with John Traxler appointed as the Academic Director. Traxler, who holds prestigious positions with the Commonwealth of Learning and UNESCO, will guide the lab, which was set up in 2023 to spearhead research and enhance product development across various domains, including learner analytics and the ethical use of AI in education. The Lab aims to support Avallain’s partners and foster collaborations globally in the pursuit of educational innovation.

Avallain’s announcements today reaffirm its longstanding commitment to ethical AI, a principle already integral to Avallain Author, its leading content creation tool, and the recently launched Avallain Magnet, a SaaS-based Learning Management System (LMS). Existing clients can now access new tools that streamline the editorial workflow while maintaining the crucial role of editors and learning designers in the creative process.
