2024 Lumen Prize Enhances Prize Allocation & Seeks Global Digital Art Contributions

The Lumen Prize, acclaimed for its celebration of artistic excellence in the digital realm, is pleased to announce the commencement of its 13th Call for Entries, scheduled for March 7th at 17:00 BST.

Launched in 2012, The Lumen Prize, together with Lumen Art Projects, has been instrumental in promoting the global recognition and understanding of art that incorporates technology. The mission of Lumen is straightforward: to craft a platform that breaks down geographic barriers and uplifts artists internationally.

“Lumen is more than just an award; it’s a gateway to a world of opportunities…from collaborations, exhibitions, commissions, and events organized by Lumen [Studios] globally. The commitment to artist development is evident in every aspect of the prize,” proclaimed Carla Rapoport, the initiator of Lumen.

This year, The Lumen Prize is excited to unveil a prize fund of $18,000, to be allocated across five distinct categories:

  • Still Image – $1,500 Prize Fund
  • Interactive Immersive – $1,500 Prize Fund
  • Impact – $1,500 Prize Fund
  • Moving Image – $1,500 Prize Fund
  • Futures – $1,500 Prize Fund

The competition also includes four special awards, which will be adjudicated by the jury panel:

  • Lumen Gold Award – $7,500 Prize Fund
  • BCS Award – $1,000 Prize Fund (Sponsor: BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT)
  • Kunstsilo Award – $1,000 Prize Fund (Sponsor: KUNSTSILO)
  • Carla Rapoport Award – $1,000 Prize Fund

Artists from all around the world are invited to submit their entries, providing a platform to showcase their talent and innovation in merging art with technology. Lumen has previously honoured digital art pioneers such as Refik Anadol, Casey Reas, and Operator for their innovative and groundbreaking contributions to the field.

The 2024 Call for Entries will open on March 7th at 17:00 BST, with an Early Bird Entry period from March 7 to March 31, priced at $25 per entry, which will subsequently rise to $35 per entry from March 31 to May 25.
