William Mark Jenkins has been described by many as someone who has “dedicated himself his life” in protecting East African wildlife.
He claimed that Mr Jenkins and his son Peter were killed while flying over Tsavo National Park to perform air patrol.
The Frankfurt Zoological Society, of which Mr. Jenkins was a former employee, said he died when the plane he was on “crashed” in the park during air patrol for the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust.
In a personal tweet from the Kensington Royal account, William wrote: “Yesterday, I lost a friend who dedicated his life to protecting wildlife in some of East Africa’s most famous national parks. Tragically, Mark Jenkins and Peter Jenkins were both killed while flying over Tsavo National Park as they were on air patrol.
“Tonight, I am thinking of Mark’s wife, family and colleagues who have sadly lost a man we all love and admire. W”
The park covers an area of about 22,000 square kilometers and is the largest national park in Kenya – and one of the largest in the world, according to the official website.
It consists of Tsavo West National Park (in the Coast Province of Kenya), and Tsavo Eastern National Park (in the city of Nairobi).
The park is home to large open spaces and red elephants, according to the website.
William is a staunch environmentalist. He last month called on the world to not be distracted by “turbulent periods” and to remember the importance of protecting nature.
William spoke at the Tusk Conservation Awards and stated that states should “keep the focus in investing in nature, the environment.”
According to the Frankfurt Zoological Society, Mr. Jenkins is “a lifelong activist and an experienced bush birder who has dedicated his life to protecting wildlife in some East Africa’s most famous national parks.”
