As the world struggles with difficult economic issues, the world’s richest and most powerful return to Davos this Week
The theme of this year’s meeting, which is back to its January schedule, is collaboration in an increasingly fragmented world. The meeting’s underlying principle is that current crises, however serious, are manifestations larger systemic deficiencies that have accumulated over time.
Some of the most prominent bankers in the world will be visiting Switzerland to discuss a variety of topics.
This year, US bank executives are making a strong showing.
Bank of America CEO Brian Moynihan will be speaking on “stewarding responsible capitalism”, while Citi CEO Jane Fraser will talk about “banking in an era of storms.”
David Solomon of Goldman, Jamie Dimon from JPMorgan, and James Gorman from Morgan Stanley will also be there
Credit Suisse president Axel Lehmann, one of Europe’s most prominent lenders, will speak about “staying ahead” in the recession – something Credit Suisse shareholders are eager to learn more about.
Christian Swing, CEO Deutsche Bank, and Colm Kellyher, President UBS, will also speak.
Standard Chartered CEO Bill Winters, who is responsible for UK banks, is the only one to speak at the speaker circuit. He will be discussing Climate Finance – Getting up to Speed.
Other notable Standard Chartered dignitaries in attendance included Chairman José Vinals and Chief Sustainability Officer Marissa Drew. Sunil Kaushal (regional CEO for Africa, the Middle East and Asia) and Ben Hong (Asia), respectively, are travelling from Dubai and Hong Kong.
HSBC also has four senior members in attendance.
Barry O’Byrne CEO of Global Commercial Banking, Greg Joett CEO of Global Banking and Markets Greg Joett HSBC Bank, Colin Bell (CEO of HSBC Europe) and Surendra Rocha Co-CEO for Asia Pacific are headed to Switzerland.
Barclays confirmed that the executive team would be present, but the bank did not say who. NatWest said that it would not send anyone from the UK to Davos because it is solely focused on the UK.
