The app rated him as the best driver with 67,000 trips. He also has the most trips across the country.
He was recognized at a gala in London last Wednesday where he was given the Uber Hero Award.
Michael, who was born and raised in Liverpool, but has lived most of his life here, won the title ahead 85,000 other drivers from across the UK.
He stated that positive attitude and cleanliness are the keys to his success.
He doesn’t like to talk politics while his passengers nod their heads. He advises other drivers to speak whenever they need to, but the main goal of his job is to get him to where he needs to be. “As comfortable as possible.”
He has been working at Uber for seven years and a half and has the highest five-star rating among all drivers in the UK.
Most of his trips are your usual pick-up and drop-offs, but some have been more memorable—like the last one where a college student who was suspected of having a heart attack rushed to the hospital when an ambulance showed up that could take him up to 45 minutes.
He said that he tried to calm the young man, not only because he was driving, but also because he was anxious and panicked.
Michael stated that he was able keep the young man stable until he was taken to the Manchester Royal Infirmary.
His travels were also marked with moments of “beauty”, which he said stayed with.
Michael stated, “I always remember this young couple that I have known for a long while now, a very young and inexperienced couple who had just gone the Chibi.”
Saturday night was eight o’clock. They spent the evening with their friends and fish and chips by the fire.
“She’s always been here with me, that’s what it was like to be there. They didn’t have anything but they had each others.”
He now travels an average of 200 per day during his six-day workweek. His trips start at 6 a.m. and end around 8 p.m.
Michael, who lives alone in Manchester and used to work as a taxi driver before becoming a taxi driver said that the award was the most proud moment of his life.
He was honored as Uber celebrates ten years since its London debut – when only 69 drivers were employed by the company.
Combining data on the most Uber trips and highest ratings over 10 years, the UK’s busiest Uber day was December 14, 2019, when over a million rides had been completed in less than 24 hours.
The most visited places and cities in the UK by the app include New Station Street, Leeds, London Kings Cross and Manchester Piccadilly.
Uber also confirmed that the longest journey by a passenger was a six-hour, 438 km journey from Heathrow Airport in England to Loch Lomond in Scotland.
