Tory Splits Explode After Rishi sunak Blocks Scotland’s Gender Recognition Law

After the government prevented Scotland’s gender reforms being made law, the Tory divisions over transgender rights exploded.

Alister Jack, Scottish Secretary used the “Section 35” request last night Cassation against the Gender Recognition Reform Bill (Scotland)which was passed at Holyrood prior to Christmas.

Following advice from government lawyers, this bill would override UK-wide equality laws.

Tory Reform, a moderate group, called the UK’s move “a deeply troubling evolution”.

The group stated that the UK government had not only played to those who want to break our union but also exposed its lack of equality agenda.

“Trans and non-binary lives across the country are at risk of being used to play political games.

The government has spoken out about the need for constructive engagement. Now is the time to see actual implementation and change.

“Under successive governments, the equality agenda has been seen as an issue to be discussed but with little meaningful legislation. It is time for some real progress to be made.”

The Scottish bill would make it easier to legally change sex for transgender people by reducing the time it takes and lowering the age it can occur to 16.

The UK government said that it doesn’t intend to introduce a similar bill into Westminster.
