This artist gives lesbian couples the retro, pinup treatment

In Jennifer PriceVisual World, Lesbians and Love gets the all American mid-century throwback treatment.

Price describes her work as “lesbian-punk blonde storytelling in a vintage inspired aesthetic, especially comics or illustrations.”

Price sees her work as a quiet act of activism because it is rare to see old photos of happy-ever-after gay couples in public and private spaces. (In 2016, the Brazil-based artist won an art competition and had her work used as the official poster for San Francisco Dyke March. Price was inspired to create more LGBTQ+ artwork.

“In my work, I want to show that lesbians and bisexuals have always existed. Our love stories have always existed, despite being erased from history,” Price told HuffPost.

“I think painting with this vintage-inspired aesthetic helps fight the erasure of our own existence in history,” she said. “This is why I like to draw stories that are positive and often helpful.”
