There is hope for South Korea, where Son Heung-min is. They will need their star striker to fight against an unpredictable Ghana side.
South Korea held firm in a goalless draw against Uruguay and missed their best chance of winning the match when Hwang scored from close range. After sustaining facial injuries, Tottenham striker Son wore a protective mask to the match.
In a fascinating subplot to Match of the Day he reunites again with Ghana coach Otto Addo, who worked with Son at Hamburg on his first coaching job. He predicts a golden future in Tottenham for the striker, who began his career at the German club in Europe.
Addo said: “It was a pleasure to be a coach when I was the under-19 coach in Hamburg.
“He is a great personality and a hardworking player. His personality is very appealing to me. He is very disciplined and has achieved great results because he worked so hard.”
Before the match, Ghana seemed to be heading towards a draw with Portugal. Mohamed Salisu was unfortunate to award a penalty for Cristiano Ronaldo after he appeared to have scored the first goal. But Ghana continued to struggle defensively and conceded two more late goals after scoring the equaliser.
Addo stated, “I believe it was really a mistaken decision.” “I don’t know why VAR didn’t show up. There is no explanation. It’s even more difficult against a top-ranked team when they are on top.”
Ghana came back to level the score at 3-2. Inaki Williams missed a great chance for equalization in the final seconds. Fans were denied one of the most memorable World Cups.
