Sir Mark said, “This man has mistreated women the most disgustingly.” It is disgusting. He has failed us, girls and women, and we have failed Londoners.”
“The women who have experienced and survived this violence have been unimaginably brave and courageous in coming forward.
“I also understand that this will lead to some women across London wondering if they can trust the Met to keep them safe.
“We made a mistake. I’m sorry. He shouldn’t be a police officer.”
“We did not use the same sense and ruthlessness in protecting our integrity as we apply to confronting criminals.”
He added, “We failed in two different ways.”
“We failed as investigators where we should have been more intrusive and joined the dots about the misogyny that has been repeated over two decades.
“And as leaders, our mindset should have been more determined to root out such misogyny.
“These failures are appalling examples of systemic failures that worry me and Baroness Casey highlighted them in her latest review. I know an apology is not enough, but I think it is important to acknowledge our failures and for me to say I’m sorry.”
“I apologize for all of David Carrick’s victims. I would also like express my regret to all women across London who feel they have been let down.
