Steve Cooper provides another lesson in Brian Clough history to his players at Nottingham Forest’s League Cup victory.

Forest has reached their first quarterfinal since 1994 thanks to Cooper. Clough’s impressive competition record will serve as inspiration.

Clough won four League Cups in the 1970s, 1980s, and finished runners-up twice. Cooper will perform a mini-show featuring some of those memorable matches before his side.

Cuper stated that Forest’s derby match against Wolverhampton would be a reminder of the history of the championship.

“It’s normal that supporters think about it, but maybe with respect, elders might recall a little, and then it will disappear.

“The same applies for us and the players. There is always a context for the game. The additional context for this game is that it is the first quarterfinal in 29 year. It’s not an accomplishment, but it’s a positive.

“There’s also club history in the tournament. It’s the quarterfinals regardless of those things. It’s a game that we must look forward to, and we have to take full responsibility for it.

Cooper also shared how Clough’s son Nigel gave him the opportunity to appreciate Forest’s proud past with a watch.

After a friendly against Mansfield’s League Two side, Clough Jr., Cooper spoke to Clough Jr. at Forest’s training grounds.

“I got some information about the past from him, which was cool,” Cooper said. “When he was speaking, there was a nice picture of his dad in the office too. That was something that I really enjoyed and it meant something.

“It was a really great time. He’s obviously a nice guy and has managed over 1000 games, which is incredible. I don’t know how he did it.”

Since September, there hasn’t been a single forest lost in the City Ground.
