Russian doctors have joined forces to condemn Vladimir Putin for “abusing” a prominent opposition leader who has “deliberately injured his health” in prison.
More than 200 doctors signed a petition expressing concern for Alexei Navalny and stating that they cannot watch him suffer.

After being found guilty of fraud and widespread contempt by a Russian Court, Navalny was sentenced for nine years. He pleaded not guilty.
He claimed that he was placed in solitary confinement for tenth consecutive year after washing his face half an hour earlier than the prison schedule allowed.
Putin’s lawyers claimed that Putin’s main political rival became ill after sharing a cell room with someone who was “deliberately” placed in a prison medical unit full of influenza patients.
In the letter, the doctors said: “The conditions of detention and the appearance of Alexei Navalny raise our grave concern for his life and health,
“From a medical point of view, it is clear that Alexei is not receiving adequate medical assistance.”
Navalny’s legal representative advised him that he needed medication for his symptoms of fever, coughing spells, and chills.
They advise him to have his condition checked by outside doctors and to be taken to a regular hospital if necessary.
The politician is the leader and founder of the Future Russia party. He has repeatedly challenged Putin through anti-government demonstrations, and exposed corruption.
After being poisoned by the Novichok nerve agent, he was admitted to hospital in serious condition in September 2020.
The attack on his life was believed to have been orchestrated by members of the Russian security forces, according to US intelligence agencies.
Mr. Navalny was detained in January 2021 for violating his parole during hospitalization in Germany. This was a result of a 2014 conviction relating to alleged embezzlement.
He was sentenced first to two-and-a-half years in prison and then to nine years after he was convicted by prosecutors of embezzling donations.
The politician dismissed all criminal cases against him as politically motivated. He called Russia’s ruling Party, United Russia, “the party for crooks & thieves”.
After the latest court hearing in the latter case, he wrote on Instagram: “If a prison sentence is the price for my human right to say things that need to be said…they can ask for 113 years.
