First Minister Rishi SunakHe was fined because he didn’t wear a seatbelt while filming social media clips in the back of moving cars.
This is Sunak’s second fixed notice of fine. He was also issued a fine during the infamous ‘Partygate” scandal as chancellor.
On Friday, the Lancashire Police stated that “Following a viral video showing an individual failing a seatbelt while riding in a moving vehicle in Lancashire, we have today issued a 42 year-old Londoner with the condition of a fixed penalty.”
Sunak’s spokesperson said that he would pay the fine. He also “fully accepts that it was a mistake and has apologized”.
Fixed penalty notices for seatbelt infractions are normally £100, but can rise to £500 if taken to court.
Downing Street stated that Sunak made a “brief mistake of judgment” when he removed the safety device during his visit to Lancashire on Thursday. Filmed and posted to Instagram.
A source from the Liberal Democratic Party said: “Rishi Sunak is a repeat offender in this country. This government’s rehabilitation record is truly appalling.
“He may be a different Conservative prime minister, but he certainly has the same old disregard for rules.”
