It looks like a professional child’s classifier has made her predictions for the next twelve months.
Steve Coffield is a stay at home mom with an unusual business idea: helping parents name babies.
Now, the 39-year-old from St. Paul, Minnesota, predicts that “dark and moody” names — associated with shows like Netflix’s Wednesday — will be hits in the new year.
She believes names based on astronomy or celestial names like Luna and Aurora will continue to rise.
She says that romantic names like Argo and Draco, Knight, Raven and Zelda are popular.
You can still like the show until Wednesday. Mystical names work very well.
Steve — who recently published Names Have No Gender — adds that longer, more traditional names will be less popular, as people opt for the shorter alternative — like Libby and Chris.
She said, “It’s an actual trend. Parents know they will call their child that name, so they don’t bother with the full name.
People with taller statures, such as Anastasia and Elizabeth, will generally be less popular.
Clients often tell me that they don’t want anything for very long.
“But some will always be in demand no matter what,” Benjamin is one example.
Steve says that E and L will be the most common letters at the beginnings of names in 2023. However, more exotic letters such as U, V, and Y could start to appear as parents try to move away from the “norm.”
