Picasso’s Painting Femme Assise Sold For 85 Million

On May 13, Christie’s 20th century art auction fetched a total of $ 481,114,000 (€ 397,501,595), selling 98% per lot. Combined with the results of Christie’s 21st century auction on Tuesday, the running total for the New York auction house’s series of spring sales comes to $ 691,585,500.

Created in the latter part of the decade, “Composition: No. II, with Yellow, Red and Blue” encapsulates the spirit of Mondrian’s “classical period”, at which time he reached a maximum level of purity and balance in his paintings. The work was auctioned for 26 million dollars.
