Patrice Evra explained why the new is so special to him Manchester UnitedDefender Lisandro Martinez was previously criticized Arsenal Captain Per Mertesacker.
Martinez, who is currently in Argentina world CupBand in QatarHe enjoyed an impressive start to his United career following the £57m move from Ajax last summer.
Many pundits have questioned Martinez’ performance at the Premier League because of his small stature. But, the Argentine proves that critics are wrong and forms an encouraging partnership with Raphael Varane in central defense.
Evra hailed Martínez as one of United’s best signings in recent years, and said he was “laughing” when pundits suggested he would struggle due to his fitness.
Martinez’s prowess in passing is what the Manchester United legend considers his greatest attribute. Mertesacker, an ex-Arsenal defender, was singled out by Mertesacker for being the one who takes the easy way when playing from the back.
Mertesacker was part of Arsenal’s seven-year tenure at Emirates. He made more than 200 appearances, which helped Arsenal win three FA Cups.
Evra stated, “This is one the best deals we have had in years at Manchester United.” Vibes with Five YouTube channel.
His fighting spirit is what explains this. This is what United fans desire to see – these players have got to bleed for their shirt.
People were talking about his height, and I was laughing. Some people also thought I was too young for the Premier League. Size doesn’t matter if you play with passion and heart.
He’s composed and clean when he gets the ball. Mexico was pushing all over the place [in the World Cup Group C game]But he was calm and always played forward every time he got the ball. That’s what I love.
He doesn’t like to play one-meter balls with the next player. that’s easy. These stats are easy to see – I recall Mertesacker at Arsenal. The stats said that he never lost a ball – but he passes it every meter.
Martinez was able to get the ball across the line like Michael Carrick. This is what he does, and it’s something I love. What a player!
Evra’s former Manchester United teammate, Rio Ferdinand, also paid tribute to Martínez, insisting that other elements of his game make up for his lack of height.
Ferdinand said that “all other aspects of his play are fantastic.”
“I remember talking to Edwin van der Sar and other people at Ajax about him and they all said he was aggressive and tenacious but also great on the ball and he could pass. Top defenders need to be able to play both the offensive and defensive sides of the game.
Martinez’s Argentina suffered a shock loss to Saudi Arabia in their first World Cup match. However, they got their campaign back on track with victory over Mexico by 2-0.
