Newcastle United’s financial turnaround under Saudi management has been highlighted by their return at the Deloitte Football Money League. This league ranks among the top-ranked football clubs in the world.
After being acquired by a consortium headed by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the Magpies were back in the top 20 for only the fourth time in four seasons.
The Premier League club’s revenue increased to €212m (£180m), putting it 20th in the annual list, which is more dominated than ever by English clubs.
Zal Udwadia (assistant director of Deloitte’s Sport Business Group) stated, “It is very important.”
“Eleven of the 20 clubs are from Premier League, and I believe it’s only a matter time before we see all 20 clubs in top 30.”
“Newcastle has been an economic powerhouse. It is a one-club community and the investment will only result in further growth.”
The Northeast team was ranked at the top of the Money League in late 1990s. However they fell out the top 20 in 2010, and have re-entered the league only three times.
Newcastle have spent nearly £200m on new players since Mike Ashley sold them to PIF for £305m in October 2021.

The Magpies will also sign a new sponsor for their front shirt next season, which should significantly improve their existing agreement with Fun88.
Newcastle’s new owners have been investing heavily in new talent, but they have not been allowed to spend as freely as their counterparts. They still fall behind 10 Premier League clubs in income.
After breaking the stranglehold of Real Madrid and Barcelona last year, Manchester City is now leading the Deloitte Football Money League.
