Hogwarts Legacy – Not a Direct Buy (Pic: WB Games).

LGBT+ reader struggles with being big Harry PotterIf you are a fan, but don’t wish to support a game that would benefit JK rowling,

I was not a big reader when I was a kid. While I have always been more interested video games and movies, I do enjoy reading novels when I really try. I read very little as a kid. Then, JK Rowling’s Harry Potter, the Philosopher’s Stone, came along.

The book captured my imagination in so many different ways. I was very close to Harry’s age in books. By the time the movies came out, I was also about the same age as Daniel Radcliffe (two months older than I). The stories were so magical that it almost felt real. I was captivated by the magic of them. .

I was one of those Harry Potter geeks who waited in line at Asda to purchase the latest book. It was Harry Potter, like many others in my age group. EverythingI liked him very much; My friends love it. To say that JK Rowling got a whole era of children reading is an understatement.

But unless you’ve been living under a rock, J.K. Rowling has been embroiled in controversy regarding her views on transgender rights — that’s a hot button topic right now as the trans community seeks similar equality that the gay, lesbian, and bisexual community has had in the past decade. Some parts of society have had a very similar reaction. These arguments seem to mirror those who have made excuses for equality in same-sex marital. And the cycle of abuse continues – only with a new purpose.

JK Rowling’s views about this issue are not as extreme to me as social media has made them out to be. In the grand scheme anti-trans rhetoric Rowling seems very moderate and seems to have misguided beliefs that including trans women in the women’s right movement is regressive for the rights organization Woman. This is fundamentally stupid to me.

I also loved a 2018 post referring to transgender women as “men dressed in dresses”, which I think speaks more than her actual words. However, her language isn’t as offensive as others. After speaking with many people from different age groups about it I realized that it stems from a generational divide as well as a lack of nuance and understanding.

No matter what your views are, or how aligned you are with mine, it doesn’t matter if you agree with Rowling. However, the fact remains that I am a member the LGBT+ community and playing Hogwarts Legacy wouldn’t be an easy decision. It’s hard to describe the desire of my inner child to play this game… It sounds like a Harry Potter fantasy. A game I’ve always wanted, but never got.

I believe that the fact that I am constantly trying to justify the purchase in my head shows that I don’t think it’s right for me to buy the game. I also don’t want money or support to women who feel like that. Harm to the transcommunity. I keep thinking that if I buy it used, or if it is Game Pass or PS Plus, then my support will be less. I would not want to review it anyway, so you will probably have a bad experience.

One thing the publisher must consider is that if the game is well reviewed and good, it’s going be a big hit. However, there’s a strange cloud hanging over it (and everything Harry Potter) that seems unfair to those who worked on it.

I don’t know if this game is for me. I still gossip about my self in and out the game, but I really hope that you enjoy it.
