Musk threatens to fire Twitter account impersonators

Elon Musk tweeted that Sunday TwitterAny account on the social networking platform that impersonates another person will be permanently removed.

The platform’s new owner issued the warning following celebrities changing their Twitter display names. They also tweeted the name “Elon Musk” in response to the billionaire offering verified accounts to all comers for $8.

Musk wrote, “From nowon, any Twitter interaction that engages in impersonation of another person will be permanently suspended.” Twitter used to issue warnings before suspensions. However, now that it has begun “widespread verification”, there will not be any warning.

They fear that the Internet’s main channel to trusted communications from government agencies and other institutions could be destroyed by the loss of moderation and verification.

Many companies have stopped advertising on the platform because they fear that Musk will make it more difficult.

In a tweet, Yoel Roth (Twitter’s head for safety and integrity) sought to address such concerns. He stated that the company’s frontline content moderators were the most affected by the job losses.

Musk tweeted late Friday evening that he was forced to reduce jobs because the company was losing $4 million per day. Musk did not give details about Twitter’s daily losses, but he said that employees who lost their jobs were given three months’ pay.
