The comments section was quick to respond to Karen’s situation. Many of them admitted that they spend more than Karen budgeted.

One wrote, “I only had one child so I’m trying my best to give her everything I can.”

“I’m trying to get £1,000 for Christmas and £500 a day – my dad and I work and I know we’re very lucky.”

Another added “about £1,000 each easy… I don’t know much, but I chose it.”

Another agreed that it was “about £1,000 for one”.

While another person wrote: “£1000 spent each on Christmas. January and February birthdays approximately 300 each.”

Another mother commented that she spent 6,000 on her four children.

Others argued that these figures were far beyond the price range. One wrote: “I can’t believe how many people spend – they must have been well paid!” £50 a day, about £400 for Christmas.

“He moved this year, so it was half as much but he needed new tires for his car, so we spent £300 plus a bit of packing material.”

One sighed, “I’m lucky if I can even spend £50 on my kids at Christmas.”

As another wrote: “£100 at most. It’s too expensive to heat and feed her.
