Mehdi Hassan Miraz was the third wicket taker to leave India reeling, and give Bangladesh hope of winning a historic first Test win over their neighbours, Mirpur.

India finished the third day with 45 runs for four. India had a clean sweep of the series with 145 runs. Gill and Pujara were outscoring as Mehdi Shubman coaxed Gill and Cheteshwar Pujara to their stumps.

Virat Kohli was moved to the short leg just before Mehdi’s delivery reached the stumps. This allowed Bangladesh to dream of their first victory over India in Test cricket at the thirteenth attempt.

India have won on 10 occasions previously, drawing twice and enjoying an 87-run advantage during the first innings on the Sher Bangla National Stadium’s soft-spin surface.

The hosts fell to 70 for 4, but Leighton Das’ counter-attack of 73 with crucial hits by 31 from Noor Ul Hassan and Taskin Ahmad, the latter unbeaten, brought them to 231.

KL Rahul’s captain Shakib Al Hazan of Bangladesh took the edge for KL Rahul. Mehdi was the center stage. Kohli claimed the decisive wicket. Kohli appeared to have had a few shady conversations with Tigers fielders before the tourists left. 37 for four.

India’s situation would have been even more difficult if it wasn’t for Aksar Patel who climbed to No. 4 and contributed to an unbeaten 26th. A tantalizing finale is in store for Sunday.

Bangladesh beat Australia and England in Tests, and a win against India would be their biggest achievement to date.
