Matlock: Woman’s home is blasted by a massive tree

Friday the 13th lived up its name for a unlucky woman who claimed it felt like an earthquake when a tree fell on her roof due to high winds.

Leslie Allen, 66 years old, claims her Matlock home now looks like something from a disaster movie after it was struck by a 50-metre-tall beech tree in the early hours Friday morning.

According to the retired teacher, someone could have been killed if they had been walking past her house at that time.

She stated that she has been urging Derbyshire Dales County Council for five to six decades to remove the trees, but they have received orders to preserve them.

Leslie, recalling the impact, said: “Luckily, I was awake at the time and then I heard this crackling. And who knows when you are right away? I thought, It’s a tree.

It felt like an earthquake. It struck my roof just above my bedroom. The tiles then ripped off and hit my conservatory.

They also damaged a patio covering on one side. It’s a small yard and everything is covered now.

Leslie feels that the tree’s fall caused more chaos in the area.

She continued, “There is also an enclosed lane on the road and no one can cross it.”

If he’d fallen while someone was walking past, they’d have been killed. It’s something I have been trying to do for years.

There are still trees on that land that are still troubled and could fall. I cannot help them. It’s like watching a disaster film.

Martin Barefoot, Derbyshire Dales Liberal Democrat Borough Councilor, said about the ward: “I completely sympathize with Leslie. He has been aware of danger posed trees protected by an offending TPO since at least the past year.”

Most trees are at least 120 year old.

The trees in question fell on an important public walkway that will remain closed for the near future.
