TikToker Summer Fox has more than 380k followers online. However, the show’s content is not inspiring the imagination of its producers.
The social media influencer, who is 25 years old, applied for the series through the network’s digital portal. She said it would be a great way of starting a new career that was not tied to the construction site where she was working at the time.
Summer filled out forms and answered questions from overzealous producers. She was then granted an interview at the ITV studios.
“I got a call from an assistant producer and when they said Love Island, I was like… Oh my God!

She said, “You feel really excited, it feels like you have it all and you feel like your life is about to change. But these people on the telephone – always so passionate, really good at making sure you feel special.”
The TikTok star shared the details of her interview preparation, in which models advised her to dress as if she were on a date.
Under the impression that casting would take place on a one-on-one basis, she was stunned to enter the studio lobby only to be greeted with a sea of beautifully manicured faces all vying for the same chance to hop between male models and PE teachers in front of the nation.
She explained that she received an email from Love Island. It was an auto-generated email that indicated when and where to be at ITV studios. You need to dress like you’re going out on a date.
Summer remembered being late for the interview and being taken to the school, where the bosses were checking on their competition.
They treat you as if you’re a brand new person, and you feel like you’re back at school.
You will all be required to fill out forms.
They then call you in one by one to the actual test area. There’s a big camera and a big screen, and people take notes. It’s intense!
From the constant winks and nudges from the producers, she was certain she was in it once the audition began.
Summer continued, “I felt like a performer, a show-off, and that I had to be a bit crazy.” I told my stories and it went well. I can recall them shooting you up and downward at the end. It was like they were shooting your body. I had to stand up and they shot me up and down. I thought that was strange.
“I thought that I did really well because he pushed my at the end and was like, “This was the best day ever” and you go out feeling great because they’re so good about making you feel special.
Leaving the studios on a high, Summer was already mentally packing her bikinis and rehearsing in stilettos to match her in her opening sequence — after all they confirmed she was into, right?

She checks her voicemail and emails, and finally accepts that Love Island has ghosted her.

The now-successful online influencer reflected on how the process affected her in the aftermath: “When you’re young, you don’t know what you’re doing.
“So when you see something like that, you think, “Oh my god, this could become a trend, this could make life exciting,” and you wait, and then suddenly you realize, “It’s back in normal life,” it was all exciting. It’s all over now.
It was disappointing and it made me feel even more motivated to make changes in my life and get out of the job that I was in. I wouldn’t be happy if I was looking for something better.
Every year thereafter, I would get automated emails asking for my application again. I didn’t.
“So, although I wouldn’t say that it affected me, it could have subconsciously been like I thought, “What’s the point?”
