The appeal of the countryside has diminished during the pandemic, with London’s house searches reaching their highest levels since lockdown.

For several months, Devon and Cornwall were the most searched places in 2021. Now, Brits want to return to the capital according to research by Rightmove online real estate agentShe suggests.

“This year people looking for their next home have well and truly returned to the capital,” said Tim Bannister, real estate expert at Rightmove.

London’s home searches are up 9 percentage points compared with last year. Property searches in Cornwall and Devon are down 16% and 17% respectively.

The gap in search between the metropolitan capital and rural Cornwall or Devon grew to 36% at the end this year, the highest level since 2019 and a substantial increase from the 3 percent gap recorded in 2021.

Although searches fell for Devon and Cornwall, both locations were the most searched in the country.

“We started to see the tide turn towards the end of last year, and throughout 2022 a lot of our trends in the market are starting to go back to where they were in 2019,” Bannister said.

During a pandemic, stay indoors. 51 percent of inquiries related to the propertyLondoners in 2020 was for homes based outside of the city, up 42 percent from the previous year.

Miles Sheepside, Rightmove analyst at the time, stated that Britons were spending more time at home and “not just considering a new home but also looking for a new place”.

Bannister stated that agents “expect a traditional Boxing Day throwback” now.

“We hear from agents that they are preparing properties for sale to go live on Boxing Day, ready to hold the attention of those who begin their search until the traditionally busiest period of January.”
