Terminals 1 & 3 are long-running prank signals at Llandegley International Airport in Wales (Photo by Llandegley International Airport/Facebook).

20 years ago, a man made a sign for a fake airport at Wales. He didn’t have one complaint.

However, if you fall in love with the area and follow the signs on the A44 you will find an empty field to the outskirts.

Nicholas Whitehead, who has spent around £25,000 over the years maintaining the billboard, decided to make time to prank it two decades later.

Formerly the editor of Radnor Express and Brecon Express, this journalist is now a freelance journalist. He told the BBC: ‘It began as a wild conversation between friends one evening at Landigley.

We considered renting a sign for something we didn’t have, or maybe a project, but we settled on the airport.

It began as a joke. Then we realized that it was possible. It was created by Wrexham Signs and approved.

Nicholas decided that it was time to let it go and give it to the establishment.

Launching a fundraising campaign of £8000He wrote, “The Airport has become ingrained within the hearts of both locals and tourists alike.” This mark is part of our heritage.

It makes sense for the foundation, as it has already been established. The banner was visible on a billboard up until November 2022. Now it’s time for the foundation to get this thing “legal” and make it official.

He stated that he would ask Cado (the Welsh government agency responsible for managing the heritage sites) and Powys County Council for permission to make an official reference to Llandegley International.

Nicholas asked for public funding to cover “these times of austerity, cuts”.

He was shocked by the popularity of the banner because “as an editor, whatever you do is going to be upset about it.”

He said, “In 20 years I haven’t had one complaint about Llandegley International.”

Many people love it. Some may not understand it. As far as I know, nobody is angry or upset about it. This is my first.

The joke was to some degree made into an institution. FacebookAnd the TwitterPeople pretend to be mad at the noises of the imaginary planes and speculate about Terminal 2.

Nicholas stated that even though the sign was taken down, the legend of Llandegley’s airport would not be lost.

He said, “The sign is just that,”

The sign may be gone, but the airport remains. The airport is just as important as the songs.

It wouldn’t ruin Paul McCartney’s song if you set his scrap of paper on fire yesterday.

The song exists only as a shared experience. It is irreplaceable. The airport is the same.
