Liverpool’s hopes to close the gap between the top four Premier League teams were dashed last night when they were defeated 3-1 by Brentford at London’s Geteck Community Stadium.
Before Yoann Wissa doubled the Bees lead, Ibrahima Konate scored an own goal for the Bees. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain scored one back, but Brian Mbiumu scored to secure Brentford’s three points.
Brentford was moved to seventh place by the European Qualification Centers, while Liverpool remained at sixth place, four places behind Manchester United.
Liverpool could have finished above Tottenham Hotspur and finished fifth but were beaten by a stubborn and determined Brentford side in west London.
The win by Brentford of 3-1 is their sixth win in the Premier League Season and extends their unbeaten streak at six matches.
Liverpool’s loss to Liverpool ended a string of four consecutive Premier League victories. The Reds are now three points behind the Champions League qualifying spots.
Bazing Brentford
Brentford won the match at the bustling Gtech community Stadium on the banks the River Thames. Ben Mee scored the goal following a corner kick to take the ball off Konate, Liverpool centre-back. Alisson was his goalkeeper.
Before scoring their second goal, the London club had two goals disallowed – Mei and Waisa were both offside – before Waisa received Matthias Jensen’s cross and sailed the ball past No. 1 Liverpool.

Brentford’s two-goal lead was reduced to one when Oxlade Chamberlain crossed a Trent Alexander Alexander-Arnold.
Mbeumu pulled one back in 83 minutes after Jeb Konate, Cameroonian wingsman, took a cut with shear force to edge past Alisson.
Liverpool couldn’t find a way back, and they suffered their second loss in the capital.
