FIFA has refused to allow President Zelensky broadcast his speech at this year’s World Cup Final. He wanted to share the situation in Ukraine with the world and to request help to stop Russian aggression.
Why was it not allowed to? Because football is out. But how can you get out of politics if bombs are being directed at your life and all your hopes and dreams are being shattered? FIFA did not answer this question.
This is why we have the answer. The civilized world must isolate Russia at all levels. Sports, too.
This is crucial for the future of the entire world – to stop another war.
First, Putin’s regime didn’t emerge out of nowhere. It wasn’t Putin who made Russia an imperialist aggressor. Russia created its own Putin.
It is hard to believe that it could be the national anthem for a country where its forces kill, steal, rape, and mutilate its citizens in stadiums. To prevent Russian Federation athletes competing, sanctions are required.
Everyone who will say, “But the athletes aren’t responsible for what Kremlin does,” we will reply: Let them perform under flags from other countries.
Secondly, the global precedent of total war in Europe’s core is this. Now, other Putins are monitoring the hostilities and the response of the world. If the world does not punish this tyrant swiftly enough, others will see this as weakness, and begin their own wars.
We appeal to all sports organizations to unite and support Ukraine and to stand up against the aggressor and its representatives at every level.
We now have world politicians, volunteers, and public figures. Athletes must be, too.
Those who know the difference between good & bad, and have principles and values.
Justice and fair competition cannot be defeated by bombs and darkness. The dreams of Ukrainian athletes can’t be destroyed.
