Leading guitarist Jeff BeckHis family announced his passing at the age of 78.
The Grammy Award-winning guitarist, whose greatest hit was Hi Ho Silver Lining (The Yardbirds), rose to fame and went on to have a successful solo life. He also headlined the Beck, Bogert & Appice and Jeff Beck Group.
A statement posted on Twitter and Instagram read: “On behalf of his family, we share the news of Jeff Beck’s passing with deep and profound sadness.
“After suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis, he passed away peacefully yesterday.
“His family asks for privacy while they grieve this terrible loss.”
Jeffrey Arnold Beck, guitarist, was born in Wallington England to Arnold Beck and Ethel Beck. He developed a passion and talent for music as a youngster.
Beck made headlines last summer when he announced a collaboration album with Johnny Depp, shortly after his defamation battle against Amber Heard.
The couple met for the first times in 2016 and began recording the album in 2019. Depp was also playing in Alice Cooper’s band Hollywood Vampires.
Beck was twice inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – first as a member of The Yardbirds, 1992, and then as a solo artist, 2009.
He has won eight Grammy Awards in his career.

Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley, members from the American rock band Kiss, paid tribute after the news of Beck’s death.
Simmons tweeted: “Heartbreaking news to announce the passing of late great Jeff Beck.” No one played guitar like Jeff. You should check out the Jeff Beck Collection’s first two albums to see the true beauty of Jeff Beck. RIP.”
Stanley said, “Wow. This is terrible news. Jeff Beck, one the greatest guitarists of all time, has passed away. He was a pioneer in the guitar world, having blazed a path that was impossible to follow, starting with The Yardbirds and ending with The Jeff Beck Group. Play now and forever.
Beck has shared the stage with many famous musicians, including Nile Rodgers. He collaborated on the album Flash with Rod Stewart.
He was also a part of Mick Jagger’s 1987 album Primitive cool and later worked with Jon Bon Jovi and Roger Waters.
Beck also contributed to Hans Zimmer’s score for Days of Thunder starring Tom Cruise.
Beck’s career was not over as he continued touring extensively in the 2010s with Brian Wilson, a former Beach Boys member.
Depp and Beck performed a number live gigs in 2022.
