This mom hates her crowded house and is refusing to allow her family and friends to buy her children Christmas toys this year.
Alexandra LaPointe has already nailed the idea of family gift activities or money for kids’ birthdays in place of gifts they don’t need, after working hard on de-cluttering her home.
The 28-year old said that it allowed her family to make new memories, spend quality time together, and not have to hide any unwanted toys at the end.
The mom-of-2 was so popular, she did the same thing this Christmas to avoid the tantrums that followed last Christmas when her children were overwhelmed by unwrapping the 40 gifts they received.
The former professional organization claims that her children have many advantages from having a healthy savings fund for later in life. They also hope to be less focused on material possessions as they grow up.
Her stay-at home mom posts about her minimalist approach with 46,500 TikTok fans, but she claims that she has mixed reactions to social media’s new ‘norm.

While she has received many positive comments about enabling other mothers to ask for what she needs, such as diapers or expensive medical gear, she’s also been told that her money cannot be used to tell people what to do with their money.
The proud stay-at-home mom is keen to urge other parents not to be afraid to ask for what they really want and need — as long as they explain and do it well, they should have a positive response.
Alexandra, from Indianapolis, Indiana, US, said: “It all started due to chaos and overstimulation.
“Because I prefer to stay at home than work out, everything overwhelms me more, even with two young children.
“I just tidy up the house and try simplify the house.
“I definitely think less is more when it comes to kids, for adults too, but for them I think it helps them have less games.

“And then, I also love having experiences and making memories with them.
“I love him. I think they are also pandemic children. We’ve been home for a while and if we have the opportunity to go together and do something, it’s so much fun they see it through our eyes and get so excited.
“My daughter was born three-months early, and we’ve been in hospital for a while. So now, I’m just at this age so let’s make memories and do whatever we can, as long as it’s safe.”
“And if they do give us money, we invest it and by the time that they go to college, university, or any other educational institution, they’ll be able to use that money to buy a house, or travel the world. “.
The mother explained that her family, who lives in Puerto Rico and receives birthday cards from her children, should not prioritize material gifts.
Alexandra said: “I put a note [on invitation]She stated, “She’s got more that she needs.” “If you really feel the need to give her something, we recommend gift cards for toddlers or a contribution to our savings accounts.”
The money was then used to buy cards and then we invested it for her.
“Everyone took the time to enjoy it and at the conclusion of the party, I was like, Oh my god, this is so beautiful! I don’t even have a million toys that I need to clean up.
“It went well for her birthday, so I tried again in September and it was just as good. So I thought I’d give this a try for Christmas. Last year we didn’t have that rule and I ended with 30-40 toys.
“And the children were so confused. “And the kids were so confused.
“And all those weeks I was preparing for a new game.
“For birthdays, a note is made about the invitation. On Christmas, I just talked with my sister and mom and explained that I was feeling overwhelmed. This is how to give it [family not buying gifts]Let’s see what happens.
“So, for my law mates I just sent them an SMS and said “The kids don’t really need anything, but if you wish, we can make going the art museum a present.”
Alexandra claimed that last Christmas she was given a membership to a zoo and they visit it at least once a month.
They have also been to indoor playground lessons and visited an indoor water park. There is also a local museum that offers fun Christmas activities such as ice skating.
She stated that her children will always receive Christmas presents. She just wants to reduce the amount so they will each get four instead of the 30-40 she received last year.
Alexandra said, “I think that a lot people, especially on Social Media, are like, “How can you do that for kids?” How can you not give gifts, especially on birthdays?
“delusion [children]I don’t know what to do and birthdays are like, “Oh, we’ll just have cake, and hang out with all our friends and relatives.” Maybe when they’re older it might be different.
“But I hope that we can teach them that it’s about more than things, that we can do things together and that spending time with our families is what matters.
Some of the positive feedback was that moms felt encouraged to ask for the things they need.
One mother says her child needs medical equipment and a wheelchair. She said, “I’d prefer my family give me money for these expensive medical equipment rather than giving them toys they won’t play with.”
“One of my best friends said to me that I really need diapers and expensive groceries for Christmas.” This made a lot more sense to us.
“I love the fact that they feel empowered to set boundaries, demand what they need, and not just follow the crowd because someone said they needed toys.
“So I believe some moms were encouraged to do that. I get more positive comments, but I also get negative comments such as “How could you do that to your children?” “,” I bet that you have fun at parties, and “You can’t tell me what to spend my money on.”
“Sometimes I just think “It’s your house, they’re not your children.” There are parents who want presents for their children and I will say, “Yeah, if you want.” Their parents should decide.
Alexandra, who has been gifted at organizing and passionately believes in the life-transforming effects of looseness, has over 566,000 likes on TikTok.
Alexandra said: “Please don’t be afraid to ask for what you want and need, I feel like it’s your home, they’re your kids and it’s okay to set boundaries.
“And I feel like I’m just asking nicely, they’re probably going to be okay, and I feel like that’s a big part of it — asking nicely and explaining why you’re doing it.
I explained to my sister and mom that this was too much for them. They want the best for their kids so they said “Okay, we’ll give the try.” Even though they love to buy them lots of gifts,
“As long as you ask nicely, don’t be afraid to ask.”
One mom stated that she would rather have 10 toys than having to fit another activity into her busy schedule. This is not something you can do to a family that has two working parents.
Another commenter said, “Same. I spend a lot time cleaning up toys and games. My kid wants an ice cream cone.
A third TikToker stated, “I bet your parties are fun.”

Another replied, “Yeah. We told the family that we wanted memories and experiences so we helped to take the children on a fun adventure. I’m tired playing junk.”
Another said, “Ugh when I tell them not to get too hurt ’cause our apartment is *tiny*. I got rid of three bikes.
