A police horse is fired for not being “outstanding” in his job.

South Yorkshire Police are seeking a new home to Tommy, an Irish gelding of seven years old.

He is proud of his “impeccable morals”, but struggled in the crucial “discipline” department.

Tommy Tankersley, also known as the horse, has been with police for the past four year.

A spokesperson said that he patrols regularly and knows how traffic can be safe.

Tommy is now being sold due to the need for “further educational in discipline”.

South Yorkshire Police are looking to receive genuine offers to take the horse home.

A spokesperson for the force stated that he was willing to please, but he grumbles.

After being assigned some difficult assignments, Tommy feels the pressure is too much. (Photo: South Yorkshire Police/SWNS.CO).

He is a good student and has completed many clinics. However, he needs to be more educated in this major.

“Tommy is up for sale due to no fault of his own. However, he has not excelled in the role of a police horse so we need to find him another home.

He had undergone strangulation lock operation previously, but police said it did no harm to his health or abilities.

The locking mechanism in the stifle joint allows horses to sleep upright, but it is not meant to be locked while they are walking or exercising.

Tommy was also described as a “beautiful gentle horse” with “impeccable manners”.

Genuine inquiries can be sent to the Mounted Sergeant Collette Pitcher at Collette.Pitcher@Southyorks.pnn.police.uk.
