In his last batch Netflix series, Harry and Meghan, the Duke of Sussex explained: “I went in with the same proposal we had already made publicly but once I got there I was given five options – one all in, no change, and five all out.”
“I chose the third option at the meeting – half in, half out. We have our own jobs and also work in support queen.
“It became clear very quickly that the goal was not up for discussion or discussion. It was scary for my brother and father to yell at me and my dad to say things that weren’t true.
“And my grandmother, as you know, sits there quietly and takes it all in.
“But you have to understand that, from a family’s perspective, especially from her perspective, there are ways of doing things and that the institution is the institution, kind of, its mission, its purpose/responsibility.”
Harry and Meghan decided to leave the company 2020, and have spoken openly about their split with the royal family.
Harry also spoke candidly in the documentary about his broken relationship with his older brothers, who are now Prince of Wales, and first in line to inherit the throne.
The Duke of Sussex said: “I mean, the saddest part was this wedge that had grown up between my brother and me that he is now on the side of the institution.
“And I get part of that. I get it right? This is his legacy, so it’s already kind of ingrained in him that part of his responsibility is the survival and continuation of this institution.”
Harry also stated that a joint statement was made without his permission in his and his brothers’ names on the same day at Sandringham Summit. This denied the story that William had bullied Harry into joining the royal family.
The Duke explained that he didn’t believe it. I was not asked. I was not asked permission to sign such a statement. I called M to tell her. I broke down in torrents of tears For in four hours they were happy to lie to protect my brother, and yet for three years they were not willing to tell the truth to protect us.”
Harry continued, “There was no other choice at this point. I said, we need to get out of here.”
Both MeganHarry used the documentary as a way to explain how the intrusion by the press (and reportedly the palace) led to his departure.
He said, “I have 30 years of experience looking behind the curtain and seeing how the system works and how it works. Just constant briefings, on other family members, on press invitation preferences.”
Harry also explained that this made it so that the different royal offices worked “against one another”.
“It is a dirty game,” stated the Duke of Sussex. There is diversion, and there is inculcation. If the communications team wanted to get rid of a negative story about their manager they would give you something about another manager.
“So the offices end up working against each other. It’s a kind of weird understanding or acceptance that happens.”
