Conor Burns, an ex-minister, has reclaimed the Tory whip following his acquittal of “gross misconduct” at the party conference last October.

In a statement, the party stated that it had reviewed all available evidence and concluded that there was no need for further investigation.

Liz Truss has fired Mr Burns from his position as Trade Secretary. This was in response to a complaint about Burns’ conduct at the Conservative Party annual conference in Birmingham.

According to reports, one of the witnesses claimed that he touched the thighs of a young man in the hotel bar.

The MP for Bournemouth West expressed delight with the outcome.

He said he was confident he would be vindicated, but the past two months have been a “living nightmare” — especially for his elderly parents.

He spoke to the Daily Echo, his local newspaper. He said that he knew he would come out on the other side. His name would be clear because nothing could have happened.

“I knew I was innocent, and that the truth would eventually come out, and I did.”

Mr Burns stated that he believes he was the victim of a “facelift”, referring to the complimentary remarks he made about Trade Minister Kimmy Baenoch, who was one of Truss’ rivals for the Conservative leadership this summer.

He said, “I think it was more about nice things that I said about Commerce Secretary than it being late to the conference.”

“It felt and smelt like a stitch and that is what it was.”

A spokesperson for Conservative Party said that the party had received a complaint and was investigating it in accordance with its Code of Conduct.

“After making appropriate investigations and reviewing all available evidence to substantiate the facts, the party has concluded that there is no basis for further investigation.

“The matter is now closed. Mr Burns’s reinstatement will take place as soon as possible.”
