Yellowstone, a story about a Montana family rancher, is America’s most watched cable show. It’s like Dallas with cows. The studio behind it said it “struck cultural nerves,” meaning it reminded them of. The TV executives who run shows like Succession may be darlings on social mediaHowever, there are many people who prefer Kevin Costner’s Stetson to the rest of us. It’s old-fashioned, high-level storytelling.
Presenter Taylor Sheridan, Texas cowboyBy understanding what people want to see, he has become one the most influential people in television. He had already written one prequel about Yellowstone, 1883. Now here is 1923(Paramount+), which is the latest addition of the “Taylorverse”. (A third Yellowstone edition, entitled 6666 is in production). Harrison Ford plays Jacob Dutton the head of his family, and Helen Mirren is Cara.
Is it worth subscribing Paramount+ to watch Paramount+? (This is a much easier task than it sounds, if my experience with signing up and logging in via my Sky box is any indication. A working knowledge of Yellowstone is not necessary. I cannot tell you how Jacob connects to Costner (he’s a great uncle, I believe). You can just take it for what it is.
Ford’s first TV role, however, he seems completely at ease here. This is because 1923 has the cinematography, scope, and Ford plays the gruff leader man who sustains Ford’s career. Although the Duttons have established themselves, they face the same problems on the Great Plains as everyone else: drought and locusts have destroyed the land, and the Great Depression looms.

However, her Irish accent is quite bad (though not as bad that Jerome Flynn, trying to sound like an Irish sheepherder).
The series’ first episode is the foundation. It introduces us also to a convent run solely by nuns who treat Native American children with incredible cruelty. Dutton’s nephew was a World War I veteran who is now a big game hunter. Shire in Africa. The African scenes are disappointing: CGI animals are not realistic and British comedy toffees look a little too real. This interrupts the prestige series with scenes that are reminiscent of George of the Jungle.
