A senior Conservative MP told HuffPost UK: “Rishi has steadied the ship. Calm has been restored. That is what the party and most people in the country are grateful for.
Rishi must now deliver tangible benefits to the economy, address illegal immigration, and still attract legal immigrants to fill all the vacant positions in the country. The NHS should also be a priority.
“He cannot fix everything before the next elections, but he must make tangible progress if we want to recover in the polls.
“The future prospects of a party will depend on its economy, immigration, or the NHS.”
Another Tory member said, “I think Tory MPs want stability.
“If you speak to normal people, they will be relieved to hear that things have calmed again after the Johnson and Truss experiences.”
HuffPost UK was informed by a former minister of the Conservative Party that it had suffered a “near death” experience and that the vast majority (over 90%) of MPs were now ready for Sunak to support them.
They said, “They realize Rishi has become the only player in town, so they have to support him.”

“Colleagues in the red wall benches are under a lot of pressure on immigration, especially on boats crossing the Channel and asylum seekers being put into hotels,” said the MP.
“Rishi needs to be seen above everything – this is his Achilles heel when it comes Nigel Farage’s reform party here in the UK.”
