Since Paddy (Dominic Brunt discovered that Chas (Lucy Pargeter), his wife, has been cheating on him in Emmerdale), his reaction has gone through several phases.
Chas is shocked when he tells her what he knows. He takes her to the house Al (Michael Wildman), has been planning to buy. He was so controlling that he made Chas feel cold when he exposed her lies.
Later, anger overtook as it was Chas argued over who should have custody of their daughter, Eve (Bella James). Chas was hopeful that Chas would win Buddy round, but his fury made it clear that he was determined to continue with his plan to divorce Eve and take full custody.
Tonight’s episode saw the usual suave vet get too involved in the festivities and become so drunk at Carol’s party that he lost track where Eve was. Eve ran off to see Santa on her own, played by Andy Moore (PC Swirling).
Chas was able spotting her, so Chas was there for Buddy’s first official visit to Santa.
His anger was directed solely at Chas. He told her, “I was happy today before I saw you.” “you broke my heart”.
Buddy continues to drink in the Woolpack, where he lives now after Chas asked him to leave for two more weeks. Marlon (Mark Charnock), and Rhona(Zoe Henry), decided to keep Eve with the Woolpack, as Buddy was too ill to care for her.
The little girl refused to settle because she wanted Chas. Rhona then calls Chas and tells him to come get her.
Marlon decides he will pay Buddy a visit at the Woolpack. He tells Buddy that Carol’s party was stressful because Marlon was both the caterer and guest star. This kind of day used to be second-nature has become a “huge effort by the brain.”
He pointed out that Paddy, who had supported him through his stroke recovery, never asked him how things were going. He was too busy with his own concerns. Buddy ignored this, but was furious to learn that Rhona had given Eve to Chas.
Marlon said to Buddy, “Sometimes kids just need their mom.” He also said that Buddy was too drunk for him to allow him to walk in to cause another scene between Chas and Chas. Buddy looked ready for Marlon to face him directly. Marlon said that Buddy would fight him if needed. Maybe you want to push me till I have another stroke. Perhaps this will help you forget about yourself for five second.
Buddy backed away. Buddy backed away. Marlon told Buddy, “You’re a disgrace,” and he left his friend to empty his glass, and think about the day.
