Eddie Jones is making a spectacular return to international rugby as coach of Australia. Just over a month after he was dismissed by EnglandHe set his sights to win World Cup this year.
Australia fired Dave Rainey (who had been in the post since 2019), to appoint Jones, on a five year contract. The Wallabies at this World Cup will be supervised by the latter. He could face England once in the quarter-finalsIn the 2025 series, against the British and Irish Lions, as well as at the World Cup in Australia 2027.
Jones, who will take up his new position as Australia’s head coaching on January 29, will also have a hand in the management of Wallarrow’s women’s team. “It’s an amazing chance for me to come back to Australia to lead my country to Rugby World Cup,” Jones, 62, stated. He was last in charge the Australia men’s team between 2005 and 2001.
“It will be a tremendous period of Australian rugby. As an Australian proud, it is an honor to be able t lead the national team through these many years.
“The Wallabies are a really talented group of players with good depth. If we can get everyone healthy and fit for the World Cup this year, I am confident we can go to France and break their 24-year drought to win the Rugby World Cup.” .
