Residents of Kyiv were urged by sirens to go to air raid shelters at night, just days after Russia conducted its largest air assault since the war began in Feb.
The Kyiv city government issued an alert via Telegram channel shortly after 2 a.m. about air raid sirens. It also asked residents to go to shelters.
Oleksky Kuleba (the governor of the Kyiv Region) stated on Telegram that there was a “drone attack”.
Witnesses 12 miles south from Kyiv heard multiple explosions and anti-aircraft fire.
Later, the Eastern Command of the Ukrainian military claimed that anti-aircraft missiles had shot down 10 drones in the Zaporizhia or Dnipropetrovsk areas. These included nine Shahed drones as well as one Marlin drone.
Volodymyr Zelesky, Ukrainian President, said in a video message on Thursday night that the air forces in central, western, eastern, and southern Ukraine had repelled 54 Russian missiles as well as 11 drones.
