Dr. Karanraj has now responded to the video, warning everyone not to engage in this potentially dangerous practice.
Speaking to his five million TikTok followers, Dr Raj explained: “Endometriosis is one of the most terrifying and insidious conditions anyone can experience.
“It can lead to both acute and chronic pain—think of the levels of pain at childbirth that can in themselves be debilitating. Plus, you have infertility, heavy periods, a whole host of other symptoms, and an overall poor quality of life.”
Dr. Raj stated that it is easy to see why endometriosis sufferers are always looking for relief or treatment.
“Unfortunately, steaming on the bottom isn’t an option for this because it doesn’t treat or get rid of endometrial tissue — in fact, it can be very dangerous,” he warned.
“The steam’s high heat can cause burns to the delicate tissue around the labia. The moisture can also disrupt the vaginal microbiome, alter pH and increase the risk for infection.
The doctor prompted several comments praising his honesty, with one TikTok user writing: “Thank you, thank you, thank you for being honest about my endometriosis. It always counters it when I see people claiming to be cured.”
