Currie and Shum are looking for a Handsome reward

Take a chance with an old fighter HANDSOME BO BO BOSurprise surprise, the Lukfook Jewelery Cup Handicap (at 8.35am) was run over five furlongs.

With nearly £250,000 in prize money for this Category 2 competition, it’s understandable why some of the fastest sprinters in town would be pitted against each other.

Tony Cruz-trained Whiz kid flying machine is in pole position. He won five of thirteen races but was undefeated in four five furlong dashes at Happy Valley.

The four-year-old horse is clearly showing his best form around a bend. He has won only once at Sha Tin’s five furlong track.

A heavy 11-pound penalty made life difficult for Zach Burton, who won a head to chest with Cruz aboard at The Canyon last October. It’s easy see why Cruz called out the stables’ 10-pound apprentice Angus Chung.

The opposition includes the fast-running Classic Unicorn as well as Bing Hai Galaxy. This will make it frantic and could play into hands of the sprinter who is coming from the pace.

These riders don’t share any secrets with their rivals, but Danny Shum’s Handsome Bo Bo showed enough promise over his September track and distance attempt (when he was defeated in a photo taken by Smart Lucky With you) to merit support.

After finishing three lengths behind Whiz Kid at the Valley last month, but now weighing 12 pounds more, his chances were clear.

Luke Currie, jockey, should have an uninterrupted passage on his outside. He’s won five times in six furlongs and can easily take on the better challengers.
