St James’s University Hospital is also known as Jimmy’s Hospital. It has nearly 1,000 beds and is Europe’s largest teaching hospital.
The hospital has established a helpline to answer patients’ questions and concerns. Steve Bush, the medical chief, posted a video online to assure worried people about the developments.

A patient in his 70s, who was living in a suite on Lincoln’s first floor, said: “I woke at five in the morning and they informed me that there was a suspicious package. We were taken to the departure ward, and had to stay there. There were six of us. We heard there was a device in back of the car.”
A nurse said that the patients were taken into the departure halls to provide beds to the evacuees.
Despite being closed, the busy accident and emergency unit at the hospital remained operational throughout the incident. However, some hospital appointments were cancelled.
Once the incident was halted, Bush said in a statement: “The evacuated patients are being transferred to their wards. We may not be able to resume business in these areas immediately, so please be patient.
“Unfortunately, some patient appointments have been canceled as a result of today’s incident, and we would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused. They will be rescheduled as soon as possible.”
As the police investigation was continuing, a security cordon was kept outside the Gledshow suite Friday night.
