“Transpennine roads may find that there are some challenging driving conditions, for example.
“Thursday will see heavy rain, which can make it very difficult to see if you get caught in a shower. It reduces visibility.”

Dewhurst said: “It will remain unsettled throughout the UK for the remainder of the year.
“In the new year we will see rain and stronger winds as well. Today will see rain moving east and snow falling in parts of Scotland.
The main theme is that it is mild for many.
“The best message is that everyone can expect heavy rain all weekend and strong winds.”
On Tuesday and Wednesday, yellow warnings were issued for snow in most of Scotland. There is potential for travel disruption due to the possibility that some roads and railways may be closed.
