Antonio Conte backed Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane’s quick victory in the World Cup penalty shootout.
England captain Kane scored one penalty against France in the quarter-final on 10 December, but sent another 12-yard effort over the bar late in the 2–1 loss to the runners-up.
Kane accepted England’s responsibility and returned to training after a short break.
The Tottenham striker will be leading Brentford’s attack on Boxing Day. Conte was part of the Italy squad which lost the 1994 World Cup final in penalties to Brazil.
He said: “No, honestly because we are talking about a world class striker.
“At the same time, you know football is this. There are many exciting moments in football. However, you might also be disappointed that you missed the penalty.
“But, as a player, I never missed penalties because I didn’t kick. I never did because it was so difficult for me to do that. However, you lost the World Cup to Brazil with a penalty. I think you live in that moment and are really frustrated.
“While you may feel sad during the first period, you quickly realize you need to move on. Because football is a job, you have the chance to enjoy other aspects of football.
“Football offers us the opportunity to play in this game and we have a lot love for it. I don’t worry about him. He has done very well during those two days with me.”
Kane will play on Boxing Day for Tottenham, but World Cup winner Christian Romero won’t be there. Hugo Lloris will be on the bench against Brentford.
Conte also saw injured Rodrigo Bentancur and Richarlison in Qatar, as well as Lucas Moura at home during the midseason break.
The former Chelsea boss held two sessions at Tottenham Hotspur Way for Tottenham players over the past month but has yet to make time to discuss the contract.
Conte insists: “I think in future I would like to not talk about it in the press conference because i think that the game in this case Brentford will be more important.”
“But I can tell you that I am happy at the club, to be here, and that we have a great relationship.
“We communicate every day with the club to try to find the best solution for each situation. But I believe we have six months to stay together, enjoy the situation, and then find, I repeat: the best solution.
“But, I’m really happy there. This is very, very important for me.
