Major UK airports could be affected by Border Force workers leaving on Friday as Post Offices stop paying their payroll, causing disruption in advance of Christmas.

In protest of low wages, members of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) will walk out on Friday, December 23rd through December 26th, as well as on December 28th and 31st.

This week, passengers arriving in the country should expect longer queues at airports. Heathrow reports a normal flow of traffic.

According to an airport spokesperson, “The peak in morning arrivals started off well.”

“Immigration halls are free at Heathrow with Border Force, Military Emergencies and Military Force providing a good service.”

Staff exits will also be possible at several other airports, including Manchester and Cardiff.

The Interior Ministry stated that it has taken numerous steps to reduce commuter disruptions. This includes calling in the military.

The Border Force assured passengers that their electronic gates would continue to work as normal and encouraged them to use them whenever possible.

It occurs as the Post also strikes today. Royal Mail was also affected by the strike. During the Christmas period, delays in delivery of parcels and first-class mail caused long delays for Britons.

Around 115,000 postal workers in the Communications Workers’ Union are taking the action, which Royal Mail has estimated has cost it around £100m.

Royal Mail spokesperson stated that the service would “do all we can to bring Christmas joy to our customers” in the next 48 hours.

This week saw a wave of strikes in the UK, with nurses, railway workers, and ambulance drivers among those who marched out to protest wages.
