YBiden warned Florida voters that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid could be repealed if Republicans win. This is in an attempt to make health care and retirement benefits a topic before the election to decide whether Democrats will convene Congress.
“You’ve been paying in Social Security your whole lives, you’ve worked hard for it, and now these men want to take it away,” the US president declared in a speech, describing the programs “under siege” by Republicans. “Who the hell are they?”
Tuesday’s speech at a South Florida community center with a small audience was a test of Biden’s ability to challenge Ron DeSantis, the Florida Governor, in 2024 on his own soil. This is the same state where he lost in 2020.
Biden’s approval rating is below 40 percent. He has indicated that he will run for office in 2024, but he has not publicly announced his intentions.
DeSantis is a Republican who is running against Charlie Crist to be re-elected as Republican. It is widely believed that DeSantis and fellow Floridian Donald Trump are considering running for the presidency in 2024.
Biden plans to attend the Tuesday campaign events for Mr. Christ, Congressman Val Demings and Mr. Christ on Tuesday. Biden is also a Democrat running for a Senate seat that Republican Marco Rubio holds.
Democratic strategists are concerned that Florida, which has been a hotly contested electoral territory for decades, is beginning to lean more Republican.
They hope to stop these trends by making the election issue a threat to Republican-led Medicare programs and Social Security.
Florida has the highest proportion of older adults in the United States.
Florida Republican Senator Rick Scott proposed that Congress pass legislation to renew Social Security, Medicare, and other government programs or to let these benefits lapse.
