Unite has announced that ambulance workers will strike again in an escalated dispute over pay and work conditions.

The union warned that its members in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland would launch 10 additional strikes over the next weeks. It also warned that additional dates could soon be announced.

Because of the bitter row with government, Ambulance workers are due to arrive at Unite Monday.

Unit Secretary General Sharon Graham said: “Rather than act to protect the NHS and negotiate an end to the conflict, the government has shamefully chosen to demonize ambulance workers.

Ministers intentionally mislead the public regarding the cap on life and limb, and who is responsible.

Our members faithfully provide protection for life and limb on strike days and not unions which do not provide minimum level of service.

This government’s poor handling of the NHS has brought it to its breaking point. As crisis builds into crisis, the prime minister seems to be ignoring the issue. What a stain. What a loss of leadership.

Unite members in the North West and North East, East Midlands and West Midlands, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Wales will be affected by the newly announced strike.

Unite said that its representatives will work with regional officials to agree on exceptions so that emergency life and limb coverage are available while the action is taking place.

The union stated that there are other exceptions to ensure that patients who require life-saving treatment such as kidney care or cancer treatment are flown to their appointments.

Anai Kassab (official of the unit) stated that the government has the solution to the dispute.

Only after he has reached a settlement over the wage dispute, will this dispute be resolved.

“The government’s incessant attempts to get out from the box, and its talk about one-off payments or slightly higher wages in future are simply not enough to resolve this dispute.”
