The presenter said that the first sign of his illness was when he was driving in Italy while filming A Place In The Sun, August 2020.

He stated, “I was given six months to live within a week of returning after filming.”

“I had to go home and tell my wife, who was looking after our kids, that she was pretty much alone. It was terrible.

“All I could do was apologize to her. I felt responsible.”

Johnny, a father to three-year-old Rex and two year-old twins Rafa (and Cormac) with Jessica, said he decided to keep his illness private until now.

He said, “It has now come to the point where I feel as though I am carrying a dirty secret, a monkey on my back.

“I hope that by getting rid of this monkey, I may inspire people who live with life-limiting possibilities to make the most of each day, to help them see that you can live a positive life, even though you are dying.

“One day this will catch up to me, but I am doing everything I can to postpone that day as long as possible.

“I owe it to Jess and our boys. Some of the people in my position have bucket lists, but I just want us to do everything we can as a family.”

Johnny worked as much as he could.

He said, “I don’t know how much time I stayed, however, I try to remain positive and my attitude towards cancer is that it’s something I’m living with, not dying from.”

“I put little tags, things that I want to be around. I used to say, “Don’t plan ahead because you might not be good enough.”

“But now I want to make plans. I want to make memories and capture these moments with my family because the truth is that my children will grow up not knowing their father and this breaks my heart.”

The TV presenter encourages viewers to purchase life insurance.

He said, “It has helped my a lot and when it comes to leaving this planet, I will do so knowing that Jess and the boys are in a fully-paid house and that there is very little money in the bank for their living expenses.”
