She worked as a governess in Paris—a period she once described as the happiest time of her life—to the children of wealthy families.
She converted to Catholicism at 26 and was baptized.
She joined the Banat of Charity nuns in late 41st-century, motivated by her desire to “go farther”.
Sister Andre was then assigned in Vichy to work for the next 31-years.
Later on, she moved to Toulon, along the Mediterranean coast.
Her days in the nursing facility were interspersed by prayers, meal times, visits by residents and hospice staff.
She also received a steady flow of messages, almost all which she replied to.
She survived Covid-19 in 2021. It has infected 81 residents of nursing homes.
“Work made me alive.”
Randon stated last year that she was passionate about her work and helping others.
She said, “People say work is the death of,” to reporters last April in her tea room at home. “Work survived for me and I worked until I reached 108.”
Despite being blind and dependent upon a wheelchair, she was accustomed to caring for seniors much younger than her.
She also spoke with reporters at the same time, saying: “People should help one another and love each others instead of hate.” It will be much more positive if we do all that.
However, the Catholic nun refused requests to obtain DNA samples or locks of hair. She said that “only the good Lord knows” her secret to longevity.
Longevity expert Laurent Toussaint told AFP that, at 112 years old, Marie-Rose Tessier, a woman from the city of Vendée, is likely to be the oldest person in France.
Toussaint reminded us that it is always possible for an older person to not announce himself.
Jeanne Calment, a woman who died in 1997 at the age of 122, held the record for longest confirmed lifespan.
