Eddie Jones, former England boss, has been reappointed as the head coach of his native Australia under a contract that runs until 2027.
Seven years of Jones Presidency of EnglandAfter a string of results in 2022, which included six defeats and one draw in 12 matches, it ended in December with his dismissal.
The 62-year old is back at the helm in Australia, replacing Dave Rainey. He was previously in charge of Australia from 2001-05, which saw the Wallabies finish as runners-up to England on their home soil in 2003 World Cup.
Jones will also oversee the women’s team, the Wallaroos. This team will be playing with Rugby Australia on the 29th of January.
In a statement from Rugby Australia, Eddie Jones said: “It is a fantastic opportunity for me to be able to return to Australia and lead my country to the Rugby World Cup.
“It will a tremendous period Australian rugby– It’s a great honour to be able lead the national team through these many years as a proud Australian.
“It’s a great opportunity for me to be able to come home to Australia and lead my country to the Rugby World Cup.
“The Wallabies are a really talented group of players with good depth – if we can get everyone fit and healthy for the World Cup this year, I am confident we can go to France and break their 24-year drought of winning the title.” world rugby.
“I saw how bold the Wallaroos were at the Rugby World Cup in New Zealand last year – there seems to be real spirit in that group that will drive the women’s program forward ahead of the next World Cup in 2025.

Chairman of Rugby Australia Hamish McLennan said: “It is a huge coup for Australian rugby that the best coach in the world has returned home to coach the famous Wallabies and oversee the Wallaroos programme.
“Eddie’s deep understanding of our rugby system and his knowledge of our group of players and their trajectories will take the team to the next level.
“Eddie instinctively understands the Australian way of playing rugby – and this represents an opportunity to secure a coach with tremendous experience and expertise in the biggest competitions, and we didn’t want to miss it.”
Eddie Jones’ record-breaking winning percentage of 73% was achieved while playing for England. He led the team to three Six Nations Championships and one Grand Slam, as well as the 2019 World Cup Final in Japan where they lost to South Africa.
Rainey is leaving after three years in Australia and Rugby Australia chief executive Andy Marinos said: “I would like to thank Dave for his hard work and efforts with the Wallabies – we are grateful for all he has done for Australian rugby.
“Dave has been instrumental in developing a lot of the depth we see in and around the current Wallabies squad; there are a number of players who are real World Cup potential because of the opportunities Dave has provided.
Dave’s input is a direct result of the team’s work ethic, spirit, and overall approach. This group of players has been a true success story.
