Thank you for joining us, Hi! Alan TyersHere is the Tottenham vs Arsenal blog. Without further ado, here is my respected colleague Sam Dean Set the scene.
Mikel Arteta was busy pre-matching in derby week. He has been trying two hard questions: Why does the away side struggle so much in this fixture and what can they do to end it? ?
Although it might sound dramatic to use the term “curse”, the statistics are quite startling. There have been only four wins away from home since the turn of century in the North London derbies for the Premier League. Since 2010, there have been only two. There have been no since the spring 2014.
Yes, it’s been eight full seasons now since Arsenal beat Tottenham Hotspur. It has been 11 seasons since Tottenham won three points with Arsenal.
What’s the deal? Arteta, a former Arsenal player, was quick to point out the atmosphere during matches.
“Something’s definitely up,” he stated. “The atmosphere has an effect and it affects the game in some way. In the last few days, I’ve seen quite a few, trying to understand why. It’s hard to come to some conclusions but the atmosphere matters.”
But there must be more. There are many other derbies of passion in Premier League and other matches where the stadium atmosphere can be aggressive and hostile.
Arteta’s second theory seems to be the most convincing. He said, “You have to see the locations of the two teams at that moment.”
This is the main point. It’s not only that North London derbies are vital to local bragging rights. They do so much more than that. It has been of great importance in the larger context of the entire campaign on many occasions in recent times.
Arsenal and Tottenham have been fighting for the same place in the league for several seasons. Over the past four seasons, they have been separated by just two points in the final table.
Arsenal has won 89 matches and received 300 Premier League points since 2018. Spurs won 89 matches and collected 296 points. These two sides were not only in the same place, but also on the same level.
It all makes this season and the derby this weekend even more exciting and exciting for Arteta as well as Arsenal. Because they were not at the exact same level this season. Arsenal is the team that is moving so quickly that a win on Sunday would bring them 14 points ahead of their fiercest rivals.
Arsenal can’t wait to win the White Hart Lane match at White Hart Lane. This is their best team in years. The four defenders are the most flexible defense they have put together since 2014.
Arsenal will win the match if it is their best football. However, the past history of these derbies shows us that other factors can hinder our progress and that other pressures can cloud our minds on days like this.
The ultimate example of how derby can frustrate visiting players was shown in the May meeting at Tottenham Hotspur. Arsenal traveled to Tottenham with the expectation that a win would secure their place in Champions League. They soon lost their heads, then lost the match.
Arteta hopes that Arsenal will be better prepared for this season’s occasion. “That they [the players] They are definitely more mature,” he said. “What I would say is it’s a great dressing room. It was a pleasure to work with her every morning. Some of the things we did together, i probably won’t be able to do again with any other team or any other group.
This group’s greatest achievements would be a win at Tottenham and another step forward in the title race. It would be a sign that they have grown rapidly and that the balance of power in North London has changed quickly.
