Formula E, an all-electric racing series, is the unrelated sister of Formula 1, which grows each year.
Alejandro Agag was one of its founders. He also runs Extreme E, a new series of E1 powerboats, but Formula E remains his most sophisticated idea.
This season, the Spark Gen3 will be the latest generation of the car. It will travel to the racetracks around the world in the hope of demonstrating the technological advances in electric racing over a decade.
These are the main changes.
Formula E Gen3 Car
The Gen3 is expected to be the fastest base car ever built by racing teams, with a top speed of 200 mph.
The racing car can reach 100 km/h in under three seconds and has a power output of 300 kW.
Formula E is also the world’s first carbon neutral racing car.
It will be the lightest and fastest car ever built in the history of the sport, consuming less than 40% of the energy required to race from the brakes.
The Gen3 car has a 75 percent increase in power compared to the Gen1 car. It also has six times more power than the first Formula E competitor.
The classroom
Mexico City will host the Formula E season today before the traveling team travels to Saudi Arabia for a double header at month’s end.
Formula E will then compete in India, South Africa and Brazil, Berlin, Monaco or Indonesia, as well as the United States and Rome.
The season will be concluded with two races held over two days in East London.
It is hoped the new car will help make the sport more competitive, even if Mercedes leaves the sport as the reigning champions.
