Ministers have been urged by the RCN chief to meet nurses halfway on their demands for a pay rise for the current financial years. They will strike in England on the 18th and 19th of January with no progress.
The prime minister stated to Sunday With Laura Kuenssberg on BBC Radio that Monday’s talks were important, but that only pay for next year would be discussed.
Sunak stated, “When it comes down to pushing, we’ve always maintained that we want to talk only about things that are reasonable and affordable, and state-responsible.”
“We’re going to start a new wage agreement round for this calendar year, we’re going to start that process independently, and before that process starts the government is keen to meet with the labor unions and discuss wages and make sure that they understand where we are coming from.
“Hold on to your nettles, come to the table,” Colin told Sunak as she signaled cautious hopes of resolving the long-running dispute.
“When I listened, there was an iota a optimism and there was slight shift in what prime minister said,” she stated to the BBC.
She added that it wasn’t about negotiations tomorrow, it wasn’t about nurses’ wages, and it doesn’t address our disagreements that concern wages in 2022/23.
